As a writer, I think I have a pretty cool job. There cannot be many occupations where you are allowed to spend countless hours in private contemplation, just imagining. Clearing my head (which often involves going for a walk or taking a cycle ride along the beach) is a very important aspect of my creative process (or at least that is what I tell my family and the people I work for). When my mind drifts (and it doesn´t take much to start this process), it takes me down a whole new career path, one that I spent most of my teenage years (who am I kidding, most of the last four decades) dreaming of. In my mind, I´m a rock star. There are many similarities between the roles of writer and rock star (and not all of them are positive): They are both creative jobs. They can both lead to fame and fortune (although most of us will be lucky if our creative output pays the rent). Some writers might even lead a bit of a rock and roll lifestyle (I now limit my creative stimulants to several really (really) strong cups of coffee throughout the day). Success in both careers can equally be attributed to luck as much as it can be to talent (although there is no substitute for hard work). You can wear what you want to work (although I´m perhaps a little too old for a spandex jumpsuit). There are plenty of ´´industry-type´´ people who will try and take advantage you. Most people who aspire to become either writers or rock stars fail. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Juan G. Molinari. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/055060/bk_acx0_055060_sample.mp3. Life is chaotic. But we can choose to live it differently. It doesn’t always feel like it, but we do have the freedom to creatively change the everyday little things in our lives so that our path better aligns with our values and passions. The popular blogger and founder of the internationally recognized Simple Mom online community tells the story of her family’s ongoing quest to live more simply, fully, and intentionally. Part memoir, part travelogue, part practical guide, Notes from a Blue Bike takes you from a hillside in Kosovo to a Turkish high-rise to the congested city of Austin to a small town in Oregon. It chronicles schooling quandaries and dinnertime dilemmas, as well as entrepreneurial adventures and family excursions via plane, train, automobile, and blue cruiser bike. Entertaining and compelling - but never shrill or dogmatic - Notes from a Blue Bike invites you to climb on your own bike, pay attention to who you are and what your family needs, and make some important choices. It’s a risky ride, but it’s worth it - living your life according to who you really are simply takes a little intention. It’s never too late. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Tsh Oxenreider. From age-defying makeup to the latest diet fad, our culture continually tells women they need to have a flawless face and a supermodel figure. Exposing the lie of physical perfection for what it really is, True Beauty directs women to the truth of God¿s Word, which proclaims an entirely different - and refreshingly liberating - standard for beauty. Carolyn Mahaney and her daughter Nicole Whitacre set forth a path to freedom from the false idols that society, the Devil, and the human heart have created. Drawing on years of experience as mothers, writers, and popular bloggers, Mahaney and Whitacre help ladies to exchange the temporary glamour of pop culture for the unfading beauty of godliness. 1. When we are lost in the storms of grief, only God can pierce the darkness. How can a broken, bewildered woman who lost her sister, a brilliant PhD nurse, to suicide, her youngest son to respiratory distress caused by an accidental drug-alcohol interaction, on the night of her brother-in-law´s memorial service, her sister-in-law to cancer, four years to the day after her son´s death, want to get out of bed and live - out loud and in color? Simple. God revealed Himself to her and breathed life back into every nook and cranny of her very being. In Dance with Jesus: From Grief to Grace, author Susan B. Mead shares her personal story of how God came to her in the midst of grief with a display of love, insight and comfort far beyond her expectations. Have you ever held the hand of God? Felt God caress your broken heart? Heard Him speak out loud? Seen Jesus dancing with your lost loved one? Seen your loved one in the holy presence of God - on his mercy seat? Do you want to? In her vibrant, inspiring, and up-close-and-personal style, Susan freely shares how her encounters with God in the midst of overwhelming grief led her to a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him that truly restored her soul. Are you ready to laugh through the tears and dance - with Jesus? Susan B. Mead, a medical technologist with an MBA, spent 22-plus years in the diabetes sector with Johnson & Johnson prior to founding the blog Agog4God.com. After Susan lost her youngest son, she came to realize that even when things get broken, discarded, or replaced, people matter most. Susan is a charter blogger on the Bible Gateway Blogger´s Grid, has been published in Medical Laboratory Observer (MLO), is on the path to becoming a Chaplain with the IFOC and has been described as a solid, comforting voice in a messy world. 10% of the profit from Dance with Jesus: From Grief to Grace will benefit Water for Life to help dig water wells in remote locations around the world. 1. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F--k by blogger Mark Manson is a candid self-help guide for anyone who needs a dose of inspired but realistic perspective on their path of self-development. Manson´s personal experience in self-improvement is the cornerstone of his philosophy. He argues that people should learn to care less - or in his parlance, give fewer f--ks - about things in life that don´t really matter, such as material possessions or other people´s opinions, and to care more about the priorities that do matter, such as solid relationships and finding genuine happiness. According to most self-help literature, maintaining a positive outlook is paramount. Yet often, when people try to look only at the bright side of situations, they ignore reality. This denial creates more problems because it keeps people from responding effectively to the less than savory aspects of their character and the more challenging parts of their lives.
